Strawberry Waffles

I know, most of you don’t give a rip about what I eat.

But in Linda H’s last comment she said “Please post more food fantasies-turned realities as the weeks goes on. It helps us enjoy our food more!”.

So if you don’t want to read about my eating habits, blame her.

I had a strawberry waffle this morning. It was wonderful. Not as wonderful as the recent hamburger, but wonderful none-the-less.

The image to the left is a picture of the actual waffle. I took the picture with my iPhone. The iPhone is my favorite new toy.

Anne and I have somewhat of a ritual of getting fresh strawberry waffles at Davidson’s Family Restaurant in Tigard. Most of their food is typical family restaurant fare, but their fresh strawberry waffles are exceptional.

Anne and I have had breakfast there, during strawberry season, for years. Many many years, in fact.

One of my customized hypnosis mp3’s specifically implanted in my subconscious that one day soon I would be able the enjoy a strawberry waffle.

That day was today.

It’s wonderful to read about you eating — and enjoying it so much!

I am LOVING all of your good eating news Gary!!! Ok, Davidson’s has been added to my list! Along with Voodoo Donuts I am seriously craving sugar and I LOVE strawberries!!! I can’t tell you how happy I am that food is finally such an enjoyable part of your life. Linda, I totally agree – I could look at a food picture every day!!!

So, Gary, as I predicted (sort of) that you would be ready for that hawaiian pizza by Memorial Day, and, by my calculations, I was almost right, I will only charge you half my consultant’s fee……!

Keep on eatin’, you deserve it!

From the ECSTATIC Bruins fans, Don and Louise!

Good to know! Most restaurants that offer waffles with fruit use that canned fruit that just isn’t as good as fresh. Davidson’s must know how to do it right. So glad to know that progress is continuing!

It’s pretty wonderful from my side of the picture as well.

I’ve never tried Voodoo Donuts, but then I’m not much of a donut fan. I did have Hawaiian pizza from Big Bear Pizza when we were in LaGrande a little over a week ago. It was really good and digested reasonably well.

Davidson’s does the canned fruit thing in the winter, but in summer they use fresh strawberries. In the early part of the season they use California strawberries, which aren’t quite as good. But by summer they’re using fresh Oregon strawberries, which are wonderful.

  7. Gary and Anne,

I have managedto keep up with your blogs and the comments. Very interesting info. That was mighty fine of Marcia to fill in for that period.

I was glad to hear when you got the external plumbing removed. An important milestone.

Happy you enjoyed your trip to La Grande. I look foreward to the part from Pendleton to La Grande. (except in the winter). Always so nice to view the Grande Ronde valley. Did you see the flooding just before Memorial Day?

  8. Gary says:

We didn’t see much of the flooding while we were in La Grande but we saw some of the damage it caused. We also got a chance to see how saturated the ground was when we got caught in a sudden downpour. The streets were instantly running with water because the ground couldn’t absorb it.

I too was glad to get the external and internal plumbing removed. I was getting really tired of having juices pumped into or drained out of my body. I don’t recommend it to anyone, unless, of course, there is no alternative.

We’re pleased you’ve been following the blog. We never quite know who is reading it until they mention it. We’ve been amazed at the number of people who are tracking what we’ve been going through.

Yo Gary, I am one of the faithful readers that tracks your progress but very seldom comments. I would say that it is nothing short of a miracle that you are eating hamburgers, strawberry waffles and seriously starting to feel better ~ way to go! Enjoy the summer, I know you will.

  10. Gary says:

The real miracle is that I’m not dead. I am aware of other people who were treated for this diagnosis who didn’t make it. I’ve been extremely lucky.

Ahhhh…strawberru waffles…sigh…I can almost taste them, whoa! I can SMELL them. How did you do THAT?! …ok, now I’m drooling. Going to walk up to the store and get some lovely fresh local organic Stawberries for Sunday Breakfast. I’m going to make waffles, too. You, my dear Mr Olson, are a very inspiring Guy. Thank you for that…

I’m very excited about the beginning of Oregon strawberry season. I see the seasonal fruit stands are starting to appear and local strawberries can’t be far off. I can hardly wait.
