Thursday it all begins.

At 9:15 Thursday morning I begin the chemo process.

At that time I will be meeting with Dr. Ey, my oncologist, to discuss the details of what I am about to go through.  I will then be seated in a comfortable chair and for the next three hours have chemo pumped into my system.

After that I’ll be outfitted with the pump that will be injecting chemo into my system 24/7 for the next nine weeks.

The adventure begins.

    Three hours?

You’d think that the Borg would have this down to 3 minutes or less by now. I am NOT impressed.

I hope that you’re not totally wipe out from this marathon session and that you and Anne will be up to doing something special this afternoon/evening.

    Three hours? Sadistic Borg protocol.

Hi Gary. I trust you’ll keep us posted. I wish we could send you some of our splendid weather. It seems to me that the joys of summer weather might take one’s mind off unpleasant side effects. If not, perhaps there are other distractions. But we hope this won’t be too uncomfortable for you!

Candace – These things are basically a drip. Drips are notoriously slow. I suppose they could have speeded it up by using a high powered pump, perhaps the kind the fire department uses. However, I don’t think my veins are rated for that much pressure. This is probably the better way to go.

Linda – A down side we learned today is it’s really bad to be in direct sun light when you’re on chemo. It causes very painful burns that are slow to heal. It’s going to mean sun hats, sun screen, and covering up more than I’d like. It will give a whole new meaning to the phrase “those long hot days of summer”.
